The wooden door is a variant of the door made of wood that can be opened and closed by the player without redstone.

Obtaining

[edit | edit source]

Wooden doors can be crafted from any type of planks, including those found in the Nether. Different types of wooden doors can also be found in multiple structures in the Overworld.

Breaking

[edit | edit source]

The suitable tool to break wooden door is axe.

  1. โ†‘ These durations ignore any other influential factors (e.g., Mining Fatigue) and are measured in seconds. For more information, see Breaking ยง Speed.

Wooden door drops itself when it's destroyed.

Wooden door also drops itself when its supporting block is moved or removed.

Natural generation

[edit | edit source]

Wooden doors generate in some generated structures, forming the entrances to the majority of buildings. Wooden doors do not generate in zombie villages.

Usage

[edit | edit source]
Main article: Door ยง Usage

Wooden doors can be opened and closed using a redstone signal, or by players, villagers, piglins, vindicatorsโ€Œ[JE only], and copper golems. Wooden doors are also affected by the wind burst of thrown wind charges, causing them to open if closed, or vice versa.

In Hard difficulty, wooden doors can be broken by vindicators and 10% of any variant of zombies, except zombified piglins in Bedrock Edition.[1]

Some doors have built-in openings that are useful for determining the time of day. Regardless of this, all wooden doors allow light to pass through them.

Barrier

[edit | edit source]
๐Ÿ‘ Image
A vindicator breaking a closed wooden door placed sideways, even though it allows passage.

A wooden door can be opened or closed by pressing the Use Item/Place Block control. When a door opens or closes, it immediately changes its orientation without affecting anything in the space it "swings through".

Some zombies can break wooden doors in Hard difficulty. Zombies have a 5%โ€Œ[JE only]/10%โ€Œ[BE only] chance to spawn with the ability to break doors. Vindicators spawned from a raid in Normal and Hard difficulty can also break wooden doors, but they do so only to reach targeted players, villagers, or wandering traders. In Java Edition, some vindicators may sometimes open a wooden door instead of breaking it. Both zombies and vindicators attempt to break a wooden door only when the door is in its "closed" state; this is the case even when the door is placed in such a way as to allow passage in its "closed" state and block passage in its "open" state (for example, by facing sideways when placing the door).

Redstone component

[edit | edit source]
See also: Redstone circuit

Wooden doors can be controlled with redstone power.

A wooden door is a redstone mechanism component and can be activated by weakly powering any cardinally adjacent block.

When activated, the wooden door immediately opens. When deactivated, it immediately closes. Players and mobs can still open and close a door that is controlled by a redstone signal.

All methods of activating a door can be applied to either the top or bottom parts of a door.

Overworld wooden doors can be used as a fuel in furnaces, smelting 1 item per door.

Air pockets

[edit | edit source]

Doors in Java Edition can be used as air pockets underwater because they can't be waterlogged. They can also be used as air pockets in lava in both Java and Bedrock editions. A wooden door in lava does not burn.

Piston interactivity

[edit | edit source]

A wooden door gets destroyed when a piston tries to push it. It can't be pulled by a sticky piston.
